Child Development Clinic
The Child Development Clinic (CDC) is a multidisciplinary diagnostic clinic that provides expertise in understanding preschool development and behaviour for children aged 0-5 years.
Overview
As a sub specialty clinic, The CDC accept referrals from community pediatricians who are the primary specialists in the care of children and will also accept referrals from family physicians and nurse practitioners where access is an issue. This program is for preschool aged children living in Manitoba, Nunavut and Northwestern Ontario where there is a question about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Global Developmental Delay or other developmental or behavioural concerns.
Once a referral is received, The CDC team send out questionnaires to be filled out by families/caregivers, child care facilities and preschools to help the team learn more about your child’s needs before your appointment.
The initial appointment is 60-90 minutes long. Follow-up parent meetings may occur, and they are usually 30-60 minutes long. You will be contacted when an appointment is available. The waiting time varies. It is helpful if you write down any questions you have for the physician.
The CDC team may include Developmental Pediatrician, Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Early Child Development Facilitator.
Appointments are generally available Monday to Friday in Clinic Crossing at SSCY Centre. At times, there are outreach clinics offered to various communities throughout the province.
