Overview
Neuromuscular Clinic provides family-centered care for children and youth with Neuromuscular Disorders that require coordinated care from several health professionals. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for the children, youth, and families that we see. Frequency of visits is every six months.
What To Expect During Your Visit
Should you require directions, check with the front reception desk at SSCY Centre, they will direct you to Clinic Crossing.Your child will have their weight and height measured by our Clinic Coordinator who will then escort you to one of our clinic rooms. There will be a number of care providers that you will see during your visit including: a Pediatrician, Neurologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse Clinician and Social Worker. There are also some children that may see a Respirologist and Respiratory Therapist.
As you are seeing multiple care providers, assessments are typically 2-3 hours long. We recommend that families bring snacks and activities for their children to these clinic appointments.
Meet Your Team
Pediatrician: Assesses nutrition, bone health and general health concerns.
Neurologist: Assesses muscles, reviews available treatments/studies (if applicable) and prescribes medication specific to your child’s condition (if applicable).
Occupational Therapist: Assesses your child’s equipment needs and modifies/orders the equipment as needed.
Physiotherapist: Assesses your child’s muscles and reviews exercises and stretches. Completes a 6-minute walk test if applicable.

Respiratory Therapy: For clinics where children will also be seeing the Respirologist, your child will undergo a breathing test with a Respiratory Therapist if they are able to complete one. This is typically for children aged six and up.
