For some siblings, career aspirations vary widely, however not for Sebastian and Ambrose Cox. Their brotherly bond extends beyond their childhood home, as both have become physiotherapists at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC).
Driven by a shared passion for fitness, health and a desire to support their community, they are committed to helping others regain their function and achieve their full potential.
“I was interested in a career where I could help people,” explained Sebastian. “I also had an interest in anatomy and exercise, so Physiotherapy it seemed like a good fit.”
Physiotherapists play a crucial role at RCC, offering vital support to clients and families by helping them achieve their movement and activity goals. Through the use of specialized equipment, they enable individuals to improve their mobility and independence.
Throughout their careers at RCC, the Cox brothers have enjoyed countless rewarding experiences, building meaningful relationships with their clients along the way.
“Watching a client reach and surpass their goals is always a treat to see,” said Ambrose. “It’s like seeing a friend every time they come in for an appointment.”
Ambrose fondly recalls one memorable moment when a young client took their first steps with a new walker, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
“The first kiddo I ever worked with using a walker took off running down the hallway and yelled for someone to chase him,” he shared. “It’s heartwarming to see the joy and newfound freedom a child gets when they gain a new piece of equipment.”
Through these experiences, the Cox brothers have developed an intuitive understanding, allowing them to better meet their clients’ unique needs and provide personalized care.
“We take mobility for granted sometimes. The effect these pieces of equipment have on families can be quite profound,” mentions Ambrose. “This gives them the gifts of freedom, participation and inclusion.”
The brothers are thankful to the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation (CRF) for their support in providing clients with life-changing pieces of equipment.
“We’re very grateful for the support that CRF and donors provide,” says Sebastian. “It assists our clients and their families in acquiring equipment that would be cost prohibitive otherwise.”
