Occupational Therapy Onsite Services

Occupational therapists (OT) work with you and your child to help them learn or re-learn activities that are important to them. Your OT will help you to identify strengths and resources that will help your child reach their potential.

Overview

Occupational therapists (OT) work with you and your child to help them learn or re-learn activities that are important to them. Your OT will help you to identify strengths and resources that will help your child reach their potential.

OTs can help with:

  • Fine motor skills (small movements of the hands)
  • Self-care tasks such as feeding, dressing and toileting
  • Sensory processing
  • Reaching developmental milestones
  • Adaptive play skills and peer interactions

Frequency of appointments will depend on your child’s needs, stage of development, and how quickly their skills are changing. This is re-evaluated at each appointment and will change over time. Before booking an appointment, you may receive a screening call to determine your priorities. Depending on your concerns, virtual services (phone or video appointments) or group programming may be suggested.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Services are provided at SSCY Centre on the main floor by appointment, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please check-in at the therapy reception desk at the front entrance of SSCY Centre. Your therapist will work with you to identify areas of functional concern and plan a treatment approach that will use your families’ strengths and support your child’s progress.  Assessments and follow-up are typically scheduled for 50 minutes with time after that to book future appointments. Appointments may be shorter depending on your child’s needs and tolerance. Depending on your child’s concerns, you may be asked to bring your child somewhat hungry and bring some of his/her favourite and less favourite foods.
