Overview
Physiotherapists (PT) work with you and your child to help them gain or regain gross motor function. Your PT will help you to identify strengths and resources that will help your child reach their potential.
PTs can help with:
- Gross motor coordination (big movements of the body)
- Balance
- Strength
- Reaching developmental milestones such as crawling, walking, running
- Plagiocephaly or asymmetries in head shape, ear position or facial features
- Torticollis or tightness and/or weakness in one side of the neck leading to preference turning head to one side or head tilt
- Musculoskeletal concerns such as fractures, sprains/strains, decreased range of motion, acute onset pain and pre- and post- orthopedic surgery
Frequency of appointments will depend on your child’s needs, stage of development, and how quickly their skills are changing. This is re-evaluated at each appointment and will change over time.
Eligibility: Children, birth to 5 years of age living within the Winnipeg Region Health Authority. Some age exceptions for children with orthopedic and musculoskeletal concerns or acute rehabilitation needs.
