Insights into experiences with myoelectric training and evaluation of a novel device: Perspectives from parents of children with upper limb differences and clinicians

We are doing a study to learn about what parents and clinicians think and feel about myoelectric prosthetic training for children with upper limb differences.

We want to understand:

  • What parents think about their child’s training
  • How involved parents are in the training
  • How well their child uses their prosthesis now

We will ask questions like:

  • What tasks does your child do with the prosthesis?
  • Does your child trust their prosthesis?
  • How often and how long is the training?
  • What kind of training methods are used?
  • Does your child enjoy the training? Do they have fun?

We also want to show parents and clinicians a new device made at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. We want to know what they think about it and if they believe it would help if added to the training.

For clinicians, we want to learn:

  • What methods they use to train children
  • How hard or easy each training station is
  • How long and how often training sessions are
  • If children practice on their own without a therapist
  • What they think about each step in the training
  • What they think about the new device

Your feedback will help us make training better for children in the future.
